GB&U: Still Drying Out My Sneakers

RESULT: Nats lose to Cards 6-1.

GOOD: Jesus Flores hit another double. His average is at .333. The bullpen, after Colome's ineptitude, pitched five scoreless innings. Sanches, Manning, Rivera and Rauch all threw unblemished. Of course, this was after the competitive portion of the evening was over.

BAD: Felipe Lopez. This was as uninterested as Lopez has looked all year long. He dropped a double play ball in the first inning, which set the tone. Even if he'd caught it he wouldn't have had the force. He was several feet in front of the bag when he took the throw. After Molina's home run, he lazily played Aaron Miles' routine ground ball into single. He failed to cover second later on a force play, forcing Boone to make the longer throw to first to end the inning. He performed terribly on the double-steal. AND he went 0-for-4, lowering his average to .242.

UGLY: The weather. I know you can't do anything about it, but it was absolutely ridiculous to be playing those first three innings. It was POURING. I have no doubt the ball Langerhans misplayed was due to water on the field. LaRussa was correct in lifting Pujols after he was hit coming back from the first rain delay. It was a miracle no one was hurt last night. More of the same on the way tonight unfortunately. Wear your galoshes.

NEXT GAME: Tonight against the Cards. John Lannan (4-5, 3.52) faces the remarkable Todd Wellmeyer (6-1, 3.16).
